Co-directors and partners Ken Spidle and Jill Jacobs began searching for a home for their Montessori school in the fall of 2016. Because they have deep roots in the Midcoast region they focused that search in the region defined by Casco Bay and the Kennebec and Androscoggin Rivers. When they found a rambling farmhouse in Brunswick on two and a half acres, with a barn, woods and an ancient but still thriving apple tree in the backyard they knew they had found the ideal spot for the Brunswick Montessori School. Ken, a skilled carpenter, began renovations to turn the 1861 farmhouse into both a home for the couple and for the school, which will open to students aged 2 to 6 in the fall of 2017.
Spidle and Jacobs share a passion for early education and Montessori methods. They are both lifelong learners, brimming with creativity and a strong belief in giving children every opportunity to thrive. Together they have created a peaceful and nurturing environment for our community’s youngest students in a country-like setting, just a few miles from the center of Brunswick.
